Consulting engagements are priced based on the estimated time required to complete the work.
Initial investigations or diagnostics are typically structured engagements with a defined scope. Once we understand the client’s situation and what needs to be analyzed, we prepare a Statement of Work (SOW) that outlines the scope of the project, what will be reviewed, and the estimated number of hours required.
That estimate becomes the project price. If the scope remains as defined, the client pays the agreed amount even if the work takes longer than expected. Over many years of projects, we’ve developed a strong track record of estimating time accurately.
If the scope changes during the engagement—for example, additional processes are introduced, new requirements emerge, or previously undisclosed complexities appear—the project may be paused while we update the SOW. The client then reviews the revised scope and adjusted estimate before any additional work continues.
This approach provides transparency, protects the client from open-ended consulting costs, and ensures everyone agrees on the work being performed before the engagement moves forward.
